What to look at before you choose
A payments app is rated on the day it fails
Almost nobody rates an app for moving money correctly. The ratings that get written are about a failed transfer, a stuck refund or a blocked account, which is why the one star share matters more here than the average.
The two stores disagree for a reason
Android carries the volume and the complaints; iOS skews to a narrower, wealthier set of users. A gap of half a star between the two is normal on these apps and is not evidence of either figure being wrong.
A three step check
Check the volume
A 4.8 from 30 ratings is a weaker signal than a 4.3 from 900.
Check the date
A business changes hands, a manager leaves, and the rating takes a year to catch up. Look at what people wrote this quarter.
Check whether anyone replied
A company that answers its worst reviews is telling you what happens when something goes wrong for you.
