A marketplace is rated on its worst delivery
Most orders arrive and are never mentioned. The ratings that get written are about a late parcel, a wrong item or a refund that took weeks, so the one star share says more about after-sales service than the average does.
Volume changes what an average means
An app with millions of ratings has an average that barely moves from month to month. A small app can swing half a star on a few hundred reviews, so read the count next to the score.

Check the volume
A 4.8 from 30 ratings is a weaker signal than a 4.3 from 900.
Check the date
A business changes hands, a manager leaves, and the rating takes a year to catch up. Look at what people wrote this quarter.
Check whether anyone replied
A company that answers its worst reviews is telling you what happens when something goes wrong for you.

Do these ratings cover the sellers on a marketplace?
Only indirectly. A store rating is about the app as a whole, which mixes the platform's own service with the behaviour of thousands of independent sellers. It cannot tell you about any one seller.
How often is this ranking updated?
Whenever a source's rating average is refreshed. Each entry carries its own as of date.
Can a company pay to rank higher here?
