Ratings follow the catalogue and the paywall
Streaming apps collect bursts of one star ratings when a popular show or match moves behind a subscription, or when playback fails during a big live event. A one star spike is often about price or access rather than the app itself.
Rating totals reflect reach, not quality
The largest apps carry millions of ratings because they come preinstalled or bundled with telecom plans. A smaller regional app with fewer ratings is not less reliable for that reason.
A three step check
Check the volume
A 4.8 from 30 ratings is a weaker signal than a 4.3 from 900.
Check the date
A business changes hands, a manager leaves, and the rating takes a year to catch up. Look at what people wrote this quarter.
Check whether anyone replied
A company that answers its worst reviews is telling you what happens when something goes wrong for you.
Questions
Why does the same app score differently on Android and iPhone?
The two stores have different users. Android carries most of India's volume and most of the complaints about ads and payments, so a gap between the two averages is normal.
How often is this ranking updated?
Whenever a source's rating average is refreshed. Each entry carries its own as of date.
Can a company pay to rank higher here?
No. Placement is the GoCredible Score and nothing else. If that ever changes, the paid entries are labelled inline.
